PJ Harvey Covers Nick Cave for ‘Overly American’ BBC Show

Even with a name like Peaky Blinders, the BBC historical drama was getting accused of seeming “overly American.” So Flood, the show’s music producer, set out to fix that with some good ol’ British musical lore.

“We’re trying to make it feel much more European and British, and PJ fits that bill perfectly,” Flood told NME. “I phoned Polly up and she was very interested. We’re trying to deconstruct all of Polly’s material and then weave it through, it’s very cutting-edge and modern.”

The cover from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ 1994 album, Let Love In, marks Harvey’s first track since her Aug. 2013 single “Shaker Aamer.” Harvey and Cave sang together on his 1996 album Murder Ballads.

So where should Flood turn next in proving the show’s British-ness? Kasabian covering Pulp? Kate Nash covering Kate Bush? For the record, songs from Arctic Monkeys and Johnny Cash also feature in the show.
