Pixar's 'Coco' clip: Rescue and reunion in the Land of the Dead (exclusive video)
In Disney-Pixar’s Coco, a young Mexican boy named Miguel goes to great lengths to meet his hero, the famous musician Ernesto de la Cruz. The difficult part is that the singer, Miguel’s great-great-grandfather, hasn’t been alive for a long time. Coco follows Miguel’s journey into the Land of the Dead to find his idol and reclaim his family’s musical legacy. In Yahoo Entertainment’s exclusive clip, Miguel (disguised as one of the dead) finally gets his wish, though it doesn’t happen in quite the way he planned. Watch it above.
Pixar’s 19th feature film, Coco was inspired by the Mexican holiday Dìa de Muertos, or Day of the Dead. “I liken it to a big yearly family reunion that kind of spans the gap between the living and the dead, and there’s something really beautiful about that notion of not having to say goodbye to anyone and knowing that they’re going to be back every year,” Lee Unkrich, who co-directed Coco with Adrian Molina, told us in March. “We ended up embracing the celebration a thousand percent in the kind of story that we told. I didn’t want to feel like we were just kind of grafting any old story into that world, so we’ve crafted a story that really could only take place during Dìa de Muertos.”
The film’s starring voice actors include Benjamin Bratt as Ernesto de la Cruz, Gael Garcia Bernal as trickster Hector, and newcomer Anthony Gonzalez as Miguel. It will be accompanied in theater by the new Disney short Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.
Coco opens in theaters on Nov. 22.
