The home in Naples is known as the Pink House, but it might soon be known as a national award winning place. That’s because it was recently selected by HGTV as a finalist on the Ultimate House Hunt in the waterfront home category. Finalist homes can be voted on starting June 22 and the winner will be announced on August 2.

“We were super excited about being a finalist for HGTV and loved the fact that others thought our house was as special as we do,” said Nancy Maddox, who owns the house with Rebecca Maddox.

While the couple loves their home, they recently put it up for sale for $18 million.

Annie Hagstrom, a listing agent with John R. Wood Properties, says the house is special, and as an HGTV finalist so many people will see what makes the home unique.

“Just being a finalist is a really big deal,” Hagstrom said. “I think it would be so cool if it won.”

Hagstrom says the home was chosen by HGTV for its spectacular views of Naples Bay.

“One of our favorite elements of the house is that no matter what you are doing or where you are in the house, you have the water view, whether you’re cooking, or showering, or watching TV,” Nancy Maddox said.

The home sits on the tip of a peninsula giving it 170 feet of waterfront land with an additional 80 feet of deeded canal frontage across the road. Yet what makes it special is so much more than the views. It is the architecture, the décor and the layout.

The home is modern with sleek white cabinets, straight lines of design and lots of white. Yet it’s the pop of color and creative elements that brings in the warmth and gives it more than a contemporary look.

Before this house was built in 2018 there was a small bright pink home on the property. As a tribute to its past, the Maddox’s had a wall on the lanai painted the bright pink color. That paint extends into the house and runs along the staircase wall.

“It is a nod to the house that was on the property originally; a 1970s house that was pepto bismol pink and way outdated, but our architect said we should live on the property before building, which we did,” Nancy Maddox said.  “We ended up staying there longer than we thought we would before building because the view is just so magnificent.”

The new house is even more magnificent.  In the kitchen there is a trough with a watering system that runs behind the sink and all along the counters. In the trough are bursts of colors from rows of orchids in a kaleidoscope of colors. A kitchen island, that doubles as a table, is made from the same walnut found on the stairs. This wood brings warmth and some color to the white room. The house has a formal style living room in the great room with sliding doors that pocket to seamlessly open the space to the lanai. The glossy, porcelain, four foot by four foot tiles imported from Spain inside the home match the matte porcelain flooring outside. There is a second less formal living room with more sliders and more matching tile. The spacious wine room, that holds about 3,000 bottles, has rack in a honeycomb shape. On the other side of the wine room wall, in the kitchen, that honeycomb design becomes an artsy wall.

The custom artistic masterpiece house was designed by famed architect David Poorman and built by Ray Allain of Acadian Builders. The interiors were done by Ken Mabe at Tillie Design Company.

They designed many eye catching features. There are grass inserts throughout the driveway and walkway that have an underground watering system. There is the sculpture front of the home that was carved in Italy from a single piece of granite.  It will be sold with the house since it is too heavy to move. There’s the walkway bridge over  water used to get to the front door. The Moroccan tile that surrounds the outdoor fireplace is seen again in a bathroom ceiling and on a wall in the fitness room. The master bathroom has both an indoor and an outdoor shower. A glass door in that bathroom leads to a cactus garden terrace that overlooks the infinity edge pool and Naples Bay. The owners say the outdoor spaces are some of their favorites in their home.

We love sitting in the fireplace room having a cup of coffee or a drink in the evening,” Nancy Maddox described.  “And of course the rooftop garden is a great spot too.”

Nancy and Rebecca Maddox, owners of Three60 Market & Wine, like to entertain. They have the wine, and the spacious sitting areas, the pool and indoor/outdoor living space to make it inviting for guests. But they chose to design the rooms for their comfort. That’s why one of the bedrooms is designed as an office, another is a fitness room and the third is the master suite. The fitness room has one of the most unique features: a shadow box window with a bed/lounger set inside. It sticks out, hanging over the outside making it appear like the person on the lounger is floating above the garden and pool area.

“I love that shadow box bed,” Hagstrom said. “I think it is brilliant. I have never seen one in any house.”

The two story house, that took 250 million pounds of concrete to build, is listed as a three bedroom, two full and one half bathroom home. It spans 4,315 square feet under air, and a total of 5,933 square feet of space. There is a very wide 900 foot dock that is grandfathered in. A boat lift could be added there, but since there is another 80 feet of waterfront across the street, putting a boat there instead would keep the views unobstructed.

“It is a very unique house,” Hagstrom said. “I think the buyer is going to be someone looking for a very unique situation.”
