Set in the Bahamas, After the Sunset followed a master thief (Brosnan) and his girlfriend (Hayek) as they tried to steal a set of diamonds from an FBI agent (Woody Harrelson). The movie marked Brosnan and Hayek's first collaboration before reuniting 10 years later in Some Kind of Beautiful.

That 2014 rom-com tells the story of a woman (Hayek) who starts to fall in love with a college professor (Brosnan) who already has a child with her younger sister (Jessica Alba).

Long before the two worked together, Hayek was a fan of Brosnan's breakout titular role on TV's Remington Steele.

"I was already a huge fan before I ever met you, from Remington Steele. So when we did meet, I was trembling," she told him during a 2017 conversation for Interview magazine, before recalling how they met "at Phyllis Carlyle’s house, one of those parties."

Hayek added, "You wouldn’t remember me. I was just a fan. But you were the nicest gentleman, which is very rare nowadays. Especially in this business."

Brosnan then complimented her, saying, "When I found acting, it was my saving grace — still is. That I get paid to do it is remarkable. That I get to meet people like you — one of the most beautiful women I know, with the most magnificent energy — is phenomenal."

While talking to PEOPLE for the release of After the Sunset, Brosnan also spoke to her magnetic presence in front of the camera, saying, "I may as well be flossing my teeth while she’s on-screen. 'Hello, it’s just me there. I’m with her.'"

Brosnan's wife Keely Shaye Brosnan also paid tribute to the former James Bond star with an Instagram post.

"Happy Birthday to the love of my life @piercebrosnanofficial," she wrote, alongside a shirtless throwback photo of the actor. "You are my rock, my anchor, my everything … and I love you endlessly."
