We love a good, candid photo opp. To mark the end of her maternity leave — and the start of returning to work — Amy Schumer shared the sweetest picture with her son, Gene, capturing just how much she’ll miss the time she’s had with her infant son.
In the photo posted to Instagram, the Trainwreck star is seen sprawled on the couch right next to her 3-month-old son and her dog. “Back to work this week,” Schumer’s caption reads. Little Gene is sporting a green-and-blue, fish-patterned onesie, holding a blanket in one hand with his other arm reaching out to Schumer. Fellow comedian Ilana Glazer noticed, commenting on the post, “His right hand reachin up for mama.”

Schumer has been sharing photos of her son regularly, including one that captured the pair on a trip to the beach. In the post, a follower left a comment asking how Schumer would “cope” if her son was on the Autism spectrum, to which Schumer responded, “How I cope? I don’t see being on the spectrum as a negative thing. My husband is my favorite person I’ve ever met. He’s kind, hilarious, interesting and talented and I admire him. Am I supposed to hope my son isn’t like that? I will pay attention and try to provide him with the tools he needs to overcome whatever challenges come up like all parents.”

Prior to her son’s birth, Schumer was incredibly open about her pregnancy, dispelling and thwarting stigmas of motherhood. The comedian has already had to deal with mom-shamers who judged her for performing stand-up at the New York City’s iconic Comedy Cellar. But if we know Schumer, we know she’ll take it all in stride as she returns to work on her next projects and (hopefully) a new stand-up special.
