A new tome of images from one of the key photographers who documented Palm Beach’s heyday will be featured at an event this week.

Author Shawn Waldron will discuss and sign his book “Slim Aarons: The Essential Collection” from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Palm Beach Book Store, 215 Royal Poinciana Way, the store announced.

In the book, Waldron collected some of the top images from the thousands Aarons published during his decades as a photographer. Aarons began his career as an Army photographer, then moved to documenting Hollywood and society life, including in Palm Beach.

Aarons’ images were featured in LIFE, Holiday, Vanity Fair and Town & Country. His work inspired legions of photographers before he died in 2006. His celebrity subjects included rock star Mick Jagger, poet Gwendolyn Brooks, and actors Humphrey Bogart, Tony Curtis and Lauren Bacall.

Waldron’s book includes an exhaustive biography of Aarons, including some previously unpublished information and photographs. Those who knew and worked with Aarons shared details about his influence and the context of his roots.

Waldron is a curator with Getty Images, the company that in 1997 bought Aarons’ archive of more than 750,000 images for a reported sum of nearly $1 million.

Only books that are bought at the Palm Beach Book Store will be signed, the news release said.
