Photographer Anna Bloda Captures the Beauty of Maternal Bonds with Premier Solo Photography Exhibition

Motherhood and the multifarious act of mothering can be defined by nurturing, instilling love from the depths of one’s heart and fostering human connection in its purest form. Magnifying the beauty of human existence through a maternal lens, New York-based photographer, Anna Bloda, presented her premier solo photography-exhibition entitled, “MOTHER-HOOD” on April 13.

Swaddling her muses she, lovingly calls her “children” in a cocoon of self-love and self-acceptance, the exhibition held at DUPLEX in the Lower East Side, houses a series of 13 photographs that intimately capture the sanctity of maternal bonds, while exposing the inner luminosity of each individual’s soul. “MOTHER-HOOD is an opportunity to meet on a stage where intimacy is mental,” Bloda shares. “We are breaking artificial boundaries — bridging the gap, the color gap, the age gap, the culture gap. MOTHER-HOOD is a safe space where everyone is loved,” she adds.

Curated by Akeem K. Duncan of Quiet Lunch, the raw, emotive portraits display Bloda alongside her “children,” serving as physical markers of time that denote the virtuoso’s ability to mutate and become reborn by experiencing all of life’s transformations. “Mirroring is one of the most inspiring things in human existence. My photography allows me to recognize myself in others. But it is a two way street, together we help each other grow and become better,” she describes. “Life has so many beautiful moments and the individuals who live in those moments are beautiful. But it isn't just about beauty. It's about the sincerity of being seen. Everyone deserves to be seen.”
