This Ralph & Russo suit is listed with the following description: “After careful consideration, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has decided to equally split the winning bid between her three chosen charities; the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund which will help Red Cross emergency teams continue to be there in the wake of these devastating fires and WIRES Wildlife Rescue Emergency Fund and Wildlife Victoria who are both on the ground assisting in the rehabilitation and recovery of thousands of Aussie wildlife.”
It’s no secret that fan-favorite Fleabag got what it deserved at the 2020 Golden Globes: The award for Best TV Series, Comedy or Musical went to Fleabag, and the trophy for Best Actress in a TV Comedy or Musical went to none other than Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the show creator and star herself, who wasn’t content to just look fabulous, win awards, compare herself to a pebble, and head home. Oh no: She also announced in the press room that she’ll be selling the absolutely fantastic, simultaneously retro and futuristic sparkle-suit she wore to the Golden Globes.
Selling it how/why you ask? She’s auctioning it off for charity. Because Phoebe effing Waller-Bridge. Seriously, we cannot love her more.
SheKnows Entertainment Editor Sara Kitnick was on the scene when Waller-Bridge revealed her charitable plan in the Golden Globes press room: “I think I can say this now, yes? We’ve hatched an amazing plan with Ralph & Russo who are Australian designers who have created this incredible couture suit which is the most extraordinary thing I’ve ever worn,” she told the group. “And we’re going to auction it, and the money that is raised from it will go towards relief in Australia.”
Waller-Bridge’s announcement was met by raucous applause, which Waller-Bridge met in return with her signature grin and a bit of an extra suit-sparkle twinkle.
It’s always refreshing to see celebs who can manage to look beyond the glam and navel-gazing vibes of awards show season, take a look at the big picture (ie, the current devastation and escalation of wildfires in Australia), and lend a hand to help. Of course, we’d expect nothing less from the humble Waller-Bridge, who took her Golden Globe acceptance speech as an opportunity to thank both Fleabag co-star Andrew Scott and International Father of Our Hearts, President Barack Obama. Essentially, Waller-Bridge is all of us.
And besides, honestly, who would not want to snag this suit?
