Philadelphia Woman, Mad the Eagles Lost, Allegedly Attacks Girlfriend and Puts Dog in Microwave

Police in Pennsylvania have arrested a 31-year-old woman for allegedly reacting to the Philadelphia Eagles’ recent playoff loss by attacking her girlfriend and putting the girlfriend’s dog inside a microwave oven.

PEOPLE obtained a statement from the Colonial Regional Police Department about the arrest of Kirsten Gaskins of Philadelphia.

Police allege Gaskins, her girlfriend and the girlfriend’s dog were staying at a hotel in Hanover Township Sunday. The television was tuned to the Eagles’ playoff game against the New Orleans Saints, which the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles lost 20-14, ending their season.

According to the police statement, Gaskins allegedly began yelling at the television after her team’s defeat, setting off a physical confrontation with her girlfriend. The women allegedly pushed each other before Gaskins forced her to the floor, punching her several times in the face.

Police were called to the hotel, where they found the girlfriend, with blood and abrasions to her face and neck.

Inside the room, they removed the white Pomeranian from the microwave. The animal was unharmed, as the appliance was never activated.

Gaskins was charged with simple assault, harassment, cruelty to animals and possession of drug paraphernalia. It was unclear Thursday if she had entered pleas to those charges.

She was later released on $20,000 unsecured bail.

Attempts to reach her and her attorney were unsuccessful Thursday.
