Philadelphia Apple Store “Looting” Leads To 20 Arrests

Twenty Philadelphians were arrested after looting an Apple store on Tuesday (Sept. 26). According to NBC Philadelphia, cops received calls regarding a mostly “juvenile” crowd ransacking the electronic store.

Authorities state that they also caught folks looting nearby stores, leading to more lawful action. Additional stores involved in the looting included Lululemon and Foot Locker. Cops also claim to have recovered firearms during the mass detainment.

Videos of the incident show police using brute force to arrest some of the people involved. One young man can be seen getting punched in the face by an officer as he is slung to the ground. Other looters are seen running out of the Apple store and evading law enforcement.

Another clip shows the moment the group of teenagers stormed the Apple store. They’re seen grabbing several iPhones and iPads as they attempt to escape with the merchandise.

Hakeem Russell, a Wendy’s security guard, told the outlet he witnessed another unnamed store being robbed. He also added that the looters assaulted the security guard at the store. “A couple of kids decided they wanted to take full advantage of the unjust shooting that’s happened,” Russell said. “It’s definitely been unrest around here since the verdict.”

Before the looting, a peaceful protest took place in Philly. The protest was in response to a Philly cop being dismissed after shooting and killing Eddie Irizarry at a traffic stop. However, Philadelphia police commissioner John Stanford told the outlet that the looting and protests were not related.

“This had nothing to do with the protests. What we had tonight was a bunch of criminal opportunists,” he said. “These were not protesters, these were criminals… Everyone in the city should be angry.”
