Kelly Oubre Jr. was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run. According to ESPN, Oubre was hit by a car in Philadelphia’s Center City neighborhood on Saturday night (Nov. 11).

A reckless driver hit the NBA player and allegedly sped off into the night after the accident. Kelly was admitted to a hospital in stable condition but sustained numerous injuries in the accident, including a broken rib. The athlete was released from the hospital hours later.

The Associated Press reports that, around 7:00 PM, Oubre was strolling near his home. Suddenly, a car “traveling at a high rate of speed” came in Oubre’s direction and turned onto the street he was crossing. The outlet reports that the “vehicle hit him in the upper chest area with the driver-side mirror.”

The 76ers disclosed that he “will miss significant time” away from the court. Luckily, the organization asserted that his injuries wouldn’t be season-ending. Sixers head coach Nick Nurse spoke about Kelly’s status after he was ruled out against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday (Nov. 12).

“He’s back home and he’s doing OK,” Nurse told the media. “It’s a pretty traumatic incident. He is home and resting fairly comfortably. That’s where we are right now….He’s got an ‘I’ll be back before you know it’ type of attitude. That’s a great place to start for him.”

“It’s too bad that he’s been on an upward trend and heading towards a good season and stuff,” Nurse added. “That’s kind of a bummer for me for it to happen to him — a guy who needed a break, was getting one and he did everything he could to give himself a break. Then to have that happen — it puts it in perspective as well.”

Nurse also stated that Kelly Oubre Jr. will be present at the team’s facility on Tuesday (Nov. 14). He will then be re-examined to accurately determine his estimated time of arrival back on the court.

The Philadelphia 76ers are currently in first place in the Eastern Conference. The squad’s next game is against the Pacers for Tuesday’s NBA In-Season Tournament exhibition.
