EXCLUSIVE: Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race and Tough As Nails, is plotting another unscripted competition series for CBS.

Deadline understands that Keoghan is working on an elite physical competition series, which is understood to be in the early stages of development at the network.

More from Deadline

The series is expected to feature athletes with brains, brawn, endurance, agility and mental toughness, who will compete to prove themselves as the toughest.

The project is certainly on brand for Keoghan, who runs Tough House Productions. It’s not clear yet whether Keoghan will host the series or just produce.

It comes as Tough As Nails is on an off-cycle this summer and will not air as part of CBS’ reality schedule. Season five of the show aired in July, as did the first season, but season two premiere in February 2021, season three launched in October 2021 and season four kicked off in January 2023.

Big Brother and a primetime version of Let’s Make A Deal will launch in July and August, respectively with new unscripted series The Real CSI: Miami, a spin-off of the network’s crime franchise, launching next month.

Keoghan-hosted The Amazing Race will also not air in the fall and will be part of CBS’ midseason schedule after season 36 aired this spring.

Keoghan’s fitness competition series is the latest endurance reality series to emerge; Fox has had success with Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, Netflix is launching Bear Hunt with Bear Grylls next year and the survivalist is out in the market with a separate adventure format, No Way Back, with Talpa Studios and Bunim/Murray.
