Three things I absolutely adore in this world: cowboys, Chanel, and Pharrel Williams. And tonight, all three were combined at the overdue Met Gala, which is celebrating “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” the latest exhibition for the museum’s Costume Institute.

While seeing all the wild, sometimes wonderful looks, walking up the steps at the famed museum, I thought the buck stopped at Chance the Rapper’s Ralph Lauren suit. I was also impressed by Timothée Chalamet’s iconic kicks and sweats (yes, sweats). But then the most stylish gent on the planet graced us with his presence. Posing for cameras with his wife in the same fit, Pharell wore a glossy black cowboy shirt with white piping and matching skinny trousers, which he accessorized with a jewel-encrusted bolo tie and black cowboy boots with a gold toe. Guys, I basically dress like this—or at least try to—on the daily, so to see the look on Pharrell on one of the biggest nights in fashion was validation.

I automatically thought the ensemble was by Chanel, seeing as he has close ties with the brand. Then he gave broadcast host Keke Palmer the confirmation I needed—that it was, in fact, designed by the late, great Karl Lagerfeld. One of my all-time favorite collections is the Chanel pre-fall 2014 collection, which was shown at a rodeo in Dallas, Texas, and I can only surmise this was pulled from that archive. “My cup runneth over,” Pharrel told Palmer about his relationship with the label. “I learned so much from the house.” And many of us, including yours truly, can say the same about him.
