Pharrell, the National, Bono, More Pay Tribute to a Dead Cat on New Album

French artist Sophie Calle’s tribute to her beloved cat Souris also features Michael Stipe, Laurie Anderson, Jarvis Cocker, and others

Pharrell, the National, Bono, Michael Stipe, Laurie Anderson, Jarvis Cocker, and more have contributed to a new album from French conceptual artist Sophie Calle in honor of her late cat Souris (or “Mouse” in English), as NPR notes. Hear the 37-track project below.

The songs on Souris Calle debuted during Calle’s solo show at Galerie Perrotin in Paris, which opened on October 13, as Artnet reports. The show allowed visitors to hear the music and watch videos sent to the artists for inspiration, along with accompanying texts, photographs, and more. The album is now available to order in a standard 3xLP edition and a deluxe, signed version.

In an interview with Artnet earlier this year, Calle explained, “When you say you’re sad about the cat, it’s a bit obscene for people. You can’t say that. I mean, if I say my mother or my father is dead, everyone tells me ‘Oh, poor thing, she lost her mother, oh, poor thing, she lost her father,’ but if we say that about our cat, we seem ridiculous. It makes me laugh, when for me, in my daily life, it was almost more violent, because I lived with my cat. I didn’t live with my parents.”
