The 34th annual Producers Guild Awards named A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once its best picture Saturday night at the Beverly Hilton, capping a week of nominees celebrations honoring the PGA’s best in motion pictures and TV.
Everything Everywhere, the Oscar leader with 11 nominations, only added to its awards-season momentum by winning the PGA’s marquee Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures. The nominees list also included Warner Bros’ Elvis, Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick, and Disney’s Avatar: The Way of Water and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The PGA like the Oscars uses a preferential voting system — both organizations switched to that format in 2009 — and the PGA’s best picture award long has been an indicator of the Best Picture Academy Award winner.

Last year, Apple’s CODA gained major momentum by winning here on its way to winning on Oscar night. It marked the fourth time in the past five years that the PGA winner went on to take the Oscars’ top prize; the PGA prize has synced with the Oscar Best Picture 22 of the past 33 years and predicted the Best Picture Oscar nominees 88% of the time over the past 13 years.

Accepting tonight’s top award, Everything Everywhere All at Once producer Jonathan Wang thanked writer-director duo The Daniels. “To my right hand and my left hand, Daniel Scheinert and Dan Kwan, I can’t do this without you guys,” he said. “You guys taught me how to be joyful, fun, make a welcoming set and be so creative and always just put people first.”
The packed night that included Tom Cruise receiving the guild’s David O. Selznick Award saw the top TV drama award, the Norman Felton Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, going to HBO’s The White Lotus, a nominee last year when it was categorized as an anthology series. FX’s rookie The Bear won its first big series honor, taking the Danny Thomas Award for Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television – Comedy.
Another HBO show scored when Last Week Tonight with John Oliver won for the eighth consecutive year, this time in the guild’s expanded Live Entertainment, Variety, Sketch, Standup & Talk Television category.
Hulu’s The Dropout, which earned Amanda Seyfried an Emmy in the fall, won the Outstanding Producer of Limited or Anthology Series Television award. Prime Video’s Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrls repeated its Emmy win in the guild’s Outstanding Producer of Game & Competition Television race, and CNN’s Stanley Tucci: Searching For Italy scored the top Non-Fiction Television prize.
The night’s first award, for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures, went to Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio from Netflix. Last year’s winner in the category, Disney’s Encanto, went on to take the Oscar in the Animated Feature race.
Del Toro, after winning his award, raced over to the Annie Awards at UCLA’s Royce Hall, where his Pinocchio won Best Picture, Best Director and a leading five trophies.
Other film winners at the PGA tonight included HBO Max/CNN Films’ Navalny, the BAFTA and Cinema Eye winner already this season, bolstering its Oscar bona fides by taking the Outstanding Producer of Documentary Motion Picture trophy. The Roku Channel pic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story took Outstanding Producer of Televised or Streamed Motion Pictures.

Also part of tonight’s ceremony, Till received the Stanley Kramer Award, while Mindy Kaling received the Norman Lear Achievement Award for TV. Warner Bros. Pictures Group CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy received the Milestone Award.

Earlier in the week, PGA Awards went to Only Murders in the Building: One Killer Question for Original Short Form Program and the PGA Innovation Award to Stay Alive, My Son. Both were honored during Thursday’s nominees celebration in L.A.
On Tuesday in New York, Sesame Street won Outstanding Children’s Program and the documentary Tony Hawk: Until the Wheels Fall Off won for Outstanding Sports Program.
