Peter Weber has already had his fair share of ups and downs on this season of The Bachelor, starting with an unexpected emotional reunion with his ex-girlfriend and former Bachelorette Hannah Brown. The two appeared to still have chemistry in both the first and second episodes of the season, leaving the remaining contestants confused and fairly angry. But while the 28-year-old seemed torn over unresolved feelings for his former flame while filming, he’s speaking out now and revealing that he’s “frustrated” by how it all went down — and we don’t blame him one bit.

After Hannah’s second appearance on the show, contestants started to express concerns that Peter wasn’t over his ex. Some of the women even questioned if they would remain on the show after seeing his connection with the 25-year-old.

“I mean I totally understood [the women’s] frustration,” he told Us Weekly. “I was just as frustrated, if not more.”

During the episode, Hannah and Peter shared in a lengthy, tear-filled conversation detailing what went wrong in their relationship. The hunky pilot questioned why the former pageant queen chose Bachelorette winner Jed Wyatt and runner-up Tyler Cameron before him, and at one point, even asked if she’d considered staying on the show to be with him — an offer she inevitably rejected.

While it made for juicy television, the reunion between the star-crossed lovers did nothing other than stir up old, unnecessary feelings between a couple that was no longer going to work, and we can only imagine the heartache Peter felt in that very moment. Not only was he questioning his feelings for Hannah, who was unsure if she even wanted to be with him, but he had a room full of women who were putting their lives on hold just to get to know him — something that was very aware of.

“The entire time I was talking with Hannah, in the back of my mind, I was thinking about them and what that was going to do to them. And, you know, I knew they had sacrificed their time to be there, and give it a shot with me,” he continued.

Ultimately, Peter and Hannah parted ways and the pilot focused his attention back on the women and his quest to find love, but the clarity he eventually found didn’t come easily.

“I tried to do my best from that moment on to really show them that I was ready to leave that in the past and just focus on them. And, you know, I feel like I did my best job and that’s all I could have done.”
