Peter Schrager proposes new Aaron Rodgers trade for Packers and Jets

Peter Schrager of NFL Network has a trade proposal involving Aaron Rodgers for the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets

After speaking with general managers and coaches about a “fair” trade, here was his idea:

— Jets get Aaron Rodgers
— Packers get No. 42 overall and No. 112 overall in 2023 and 2025 conditional second-round pick

There’s no first-round pick in 2023, but the Packers do get two picks this year, and then there would be a waiting game. The condition on the 2025 pick? If Rodgers played eight or more games in 2023 and 2024, the 2025 pick would become a first-rounder. If not, it would remain a second-rounder.

It’s another intriguing scenario. The Packers get another top-50 pick this year, plus a pick in the fourth round which could help general manager Brian Gutekunst move around (up?) the board early in the draft. The first- or second-round pick in 2025 could be hugely valuable for the Packers, especially if Love struggles over the next two seasons.

The Packers would obviously prefer the 13th overall pick this year, but waiting on a potential first-rounder makes sense as a compromise for both teams. The Jets can use No. 13 to help Rodgers right away, while the Packers can get big future value to either build around Love or help fix whatever problems arise at quarterback down the line.

Is this enough? The Packers want the right compensation for the four-time MVP, but this trade has so many moving parts and factors that the idea of fair compromise remains elusive.
