Peter ‘Peetah’ Morgan, Lead Singer in Reggae Band Morgan Heritage, Dead at 46

Peter Anthony Morgan, the lead singer of the reggae band Morgan Heritage, has died. The artist, who often went by “Peetah,” was 46 years old, according to reports from the Associated Press, though the statement shared on social media by his family did not specify his age.
“It is out of sincere love that we share that our beloved husband, father, son, and brother and lead singer of Morgan Heritage Peter Anthony Morgan has ascended today,” the statement from Morgan’s family read. “Jah come and save us from ourselves because love is the only way.”

A cause of death was not mentioned.
Morgan was the son of Jamaican musician Denroy Morgan, who died in 2022. He performed in Morgan Heritage alongside his siblings Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan. At the time of his death, he was one of three active members of the band, alongside Gramps and Mr. Mojo.
The musician was born in Brooklyn but raised in Massachusetts, where he began playing music as a child. It was during a visit to their father’s birthplace in Jamaica that the siblings really began to find their rhythm. With Morgan at the helm as lead vocalist, Morgan Heritage became well known for their soulful vocal delivery and foundational harmonies.
Morgan Heritage was nominated for two Grammy Awards throughout their career. Their 2015 album Strictly Roots was awarded Best Reggae Album.
“Our family thanks you in advance for your overwhelming love and support, and we ask for your continued prayers as we go through this process,” the Morgan family concluded their statement. “We also ask that you please respect our privacy during this time of healing.”
