Pete Yorn Goes From ‘Flower Moon’ Cameo to New ‘Someday, Someday’ Video

Killers of the Flower Moon had a remarkable amount of musician cameos: Jason Isbell, Randy Houser, Sturgill Simpson, and even Jack White all turned up. But Pete Yorn’s role may be the most literally explosive — the New Jersey singer-songwriter plays a mysterious hitman hired to blow up a house.

Yorn returns to his day job this week with the release of his new song “Someday, Someday.” It’s an introspective acoustic number that finds Yorn ruminating on a relationship that’s been relegated to the fringes of life, and features Rami Jaffee, of Foo Fighters, on keys. “Never the one for a long goodbye/Leave before the end/Then you’re off running,” he sings.

Yorn, whose last album was 2022’s eclectic Hawaii, debuted a music video for the track that happens to be steeped in movie-house history. Director Jim Wright filmed Yorn in the Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro, California, a striking art-deco theater.

“I knew I wanted something in deep black and white, noir. I sent my friend ‘Jersey’ Jim Wright the song and he knew just what to do for the video,” Yorn tells Rolling Stone. “We shot it at the old Warner Grand Theater. Built in the 1930s, it was the first sound equipped theater in the south bay. Projected throughout the video are old Super 8 films that Jim had shot of me back in the early 2000s that had only recently been developed. So there’s a bit of reflection and assessment of the passage of time going on in there.”

Yorn captured the attention of Bruce Springsteen fans with the very Jersey rock vibes of his 2001 debut Musicforthemorningafter. Since then, he’s been a prolific recording artist and live performer. On Jan. 16, he’ll perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, just a few days before he plays a sold-out gig in New York.

Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DeNiro, and Golden Globe-winning actress Lily Gladstone, is now streaming on Apple TV Plus.
