Pete Davidson Ends Peacock Comedy “Bupkis” Despite Season 2 Renewal Plan: 'This Part of My Life Is Finished'

Pete Davidson is changing course.

On Thursday, the Saturday Night Live alum announced he would not be proceeding forward with the planned second season for his lauded Peacock comedy series, Bupkis.

"I've always seen Bupkis as a window into my life, since it is so personal and about my struggles and family. After nearly a decade of my personal life being in the media I wanted a chance to tell my story my way," Davidson, 30, said in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter.

"Of all the work I've ever done, Bupkis is by far what I’m most proud of. I am so grateful to Lorne Michaels and Broadway Video, Peacock, Universal Television and the amazing cast and writers for helping me create something honest, funny and heartfelt," he continued. "I do also feel that this part of my life is finished. I'm very excited for this next chapter and for you guys to see the work. Thank you to all who support me for I am forever grateful."

The semi-autobiographical series told a heightened, fictionalized version of Davidson's life story. It had been compared to Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm and Louis C.K.'s Louie.

Edie Falco and Joe Pesci starred as Davidson's mother and grandfather, respectively, alongside several celebrity guest stars, including John Mulaney, Chase Sui Wonders, Charlie Day, La La Anthony and Machine Gun Kelly.

Bupkis, which premiered in May 2023 and was renewed for a second season the following month, marked Davidson's big return to television after ending his longtime run on Saturday Night Live in 2022.

However, despite one-off guest starring roles across television, he has largely focused his attention on bolstering his film career with roles in Meet Cute, Dumb Money, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Fast X and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. His many upcoming film projects include a horror film, titled The Home.

Davidson has also been keeping up with his comedic career, debuting a new Netflix comedy special — titled Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli — in January. Additionally, he is touring the country with his Pete Davidson: Prehab comedy tour.
