Justin Bieber hits back at PETA after controversy over his new exotic cats Sushi and Tuna

Justin Bieber's newest pets have PETA peeved, and the singer doesn't want to hear about it.

The singer, who had a South Carolina wedding celebration Monday to the former Hailey Baldwin, celebrated with an early wedding gift to himself: exotic kittens.

Bieber welcomed brother and sister Savannah cats Sushi and Tuna to his family earlier this week. And in true celebrity fashion, Bieber gave the felines their own Instagram page that already has over 243K followers.

But not everyone is a fan.

"Baby, baby, baby, nooooooo," PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange said in a statement to USA TODAY on Thursday. “Justin Bieber could inspire his fans around the world to save a life by adopting a cat from a local animal shelter – rather than fueling the dangerous demand for hybrid cats, contributing to the animal overpopulation crisis, and proving that when it comes to helping animals, his stance so far is 'I don’t care.'"

Bieber, for one, is not interested in hearing from the organization about his new pets.

"PETA go focus on real problems," he wrote on his Instagram story early Friday, suggesting the group worry about "poaching and animal brutality."

"Ur tripping because I want a specific kind of cat?" he continued. "... Every pet we get must be a rescue? I believe in adopting rescues but also think there are preferences and that's what breeders are for."

He concluded: "PETA go help with all of the plastic in the ocean, and leave my beautiful cats alone." He tagged the new Instagram account for his pets in the post, plugging the page he created.

Savannah cats are part domestic cat and part African Serval, according to Bieber's breeder, Select Exotics, who says the hybrid "offers individuals a large cat that looks like a Serval in body type and coat pattern but has a domestic temperament."

Although the breed is banned in Georgia, Nebraska, Rhode Island and Hawaii, according to the nonprofit group Savannah Cat Association, Bieber's home state of California allows Savannah cats.

It's not clear how much Bieber paid for Sushi and Tuna, but the cats range from $15K to $20K each, according to the breeder website.

If the name Sushi sounds familiar, it's because Kim Kardashian West has a Pomeranian with the same name, courtesy of daughter North.
