Peta Murgatroyd and Maks Chmerkovskiy Celebrate First Thanksgiving as a Family of Four

The proud parents were joined by their 'Dancing with the Stars' costars for Thanksgiving

Peta Murgatroyd and Maks Chmerkovskiy enjoyed their first Thanksgiving as a family of four.

The dancing pros celebrated the holiday with sons Rio John, 5 months, and Shai Aleksander, 6. The family joined Dancing with the Stars host Alfonso Ribeiro and his wife Angela Ribeiro at the couple's house for a Thanksgiving reunion with their costars and their loved ones.

“Oh how our family has grown ❤️,” Murgatroyd, 37, began in a festive social media post. “Huge thank you to @mrsangelaribeiro1 @therealalfonsoribeiro for again putting on the best feast and managing to gather everyone from @dancingwiththestars 🙏🏻.”

DWTS season 26 champ Jenna Johnson, along with her husband Val Chmerkovskiy and their baby boy Rome Valentin, 11 months, joined in on the first shot of the Instagram carousel. In the next slide, Murgatroyd, her boys and Maks, 43, stood with his parents.

“This year has been one for the books…with some great joys and some serious lows,” she explained. “Losing my father has been my greatest pain but gaining two new little loves (Rio and Hachi) has filled my life with an abundance of happiness. Life brings constant waves of ups and downs and I have to be grateful for it all.”

Murgatroyd ended her caption by wishing everyone an “amazing” day, and urging her followers to “hug your loved ones tight!”

After a few more fun shots, the final photo showed the DWTS family and their kids gathered for a group picture.

Speaking with PEOPLE following last month's Halloween show, Murgatroyd, 37, opened up about how supportive her husband has been when it comes to looking after their two sons.

“He's on daddy duty full time right now,” said the pro dancer, who is partnered with The Brady Bunch actor Barry Williams this season. “He's trick-or-treating with Shai. So it's the first year I haven't actually been there, but he's doing a great job."

She added, "He's always supporting. He loves Barry. He's rooting us on always. So he's the best.”

Murgatroyd returned to the dance floor three months after welcoming Rio in June. And just days after his birth, she and her DWTS alum husband exclusively introduced the little one via PEOPLE and revealed his name.

“We loved Rio, which we came upon at the last minute. It’s a perfect complement to our long surname!" Murgatroyd said at the time. "We also wanted something easy to say with Shai."

The baby's middle name, John, is in honor of the Murgatroyd’s late father, Derek John, who died in December 2022.

Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy first met on Broadway in 2009, and they started dating in 2012. They went on to welcome Shai in January 2017, and tied the knot that July.
