Acrisure Arena's PR team sent a press release at 7:02 a.m. Tuesday with the following subject line: "Peso Pluma bringing his 2024 arena tour “Exodo” to Acrisure Arena on September 3, 2024."

Shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, a representative for the arena texted this reporter saying "Acrisure Arena does not have a Peso Pluma date. That was released in error."

It's unclear why a press release had been sent out announcing the Grammy Award-winning Mexican singer's return to the arena, but no more information was provided.

The concert would have been Peso Pluma's second at the arena and would have taken place five months after his April performances at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Peso Pluma performs for a sold out crowd at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, Calif., Saturday, July 8, 2023. The Mexican singer will return to Acrisure Arena on Sept. 2, 2024.

A rapid rise to prominence

Known for his corridos tumbados (which translates to "knocked down," and is a type of narrative song that features a mix of electronic beats, Latin trap and hip-hop sounds layered with instruments from other Mexican music genres) and the already-established corridos bélicos (translating to "warlike," and heavy on lyrics about drug trafficking and ongoing cartel turf battles in Mexico), Pluma broke into the scene last year with the release of "El Belicón," a corrido anthem on the local narcoculture.

Born Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, Pluma is part of a new generation of young Mexican and Mexican American artists — including Fuerza RegidaGrupo FronteraJunior H and Natanael Cano, among others — dominating the Billboard, Spotify and Apple Music charts and "removing the stigma of regional music from Mexican music," says the Zapopan native from the state of Jalisco, Mexico.

Pluma has seen eight of his songs land on the Billboard 100. His 2023 collaboration with Eslabon Armado, "Ella Baila Sola," made history as the first regional Mexican song to enter the top five on the all-genre chart.

At the 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards, Pluma led the nominations list with 21 awards across 15 categories, including Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Top Latin Album of the Year for "Génesis."
