Peso Pluma Declares Natanael Cano the ‘King of Música Mexicana’ at Massive Mexico City Show

Peso Pluma is honoring the work of the artists that came before him. During his massive show at Mexico City’s Foro Sol Saturday night, the Mexican star welcomed Natanael Cano onstage and recognized his work “paving the way” for his own success.
“I have to say some words in front of all of you,” Peso started before Cano attempted to interrupt him: “No, no, people want to see us sing.”

“I don’t give a fuck!” Peso responded, before declaring, “This motherfucker is the fucking king of música Mexicana — regardless of who likes and doesn’t like that. This fucker paved the way so that all of us can live this tonight. I want to hear a loud scream for the king of corridos tumbaos.”
Cano then approached Peso and hugged him, adding that he and Peso are the ones “making the difference” in the genre. He then called Gabito Ballesteros onstage so the three artists could perform “AMG” together, along with “Lady Gaga.” Before Pluma’s speech, Cano and Pluma sang “Carnal” and “PRC.”
Peso brought out several star-studded guests to join him onstage at the show in front of more than 60,000 people, including Jasiel Núñez, Alemán, Grupo Firme’s Eduin Caz, and Yng Lvcas.
Peso recently spoke to Rolling Stone about the impact of Cano and other artists helped lead to the exponential growth of the genre.
“A lot of artists did their part for this to happen globally. Natanael Cano, [Ariel] Camacho, so many artists worked for this to get to the level where it is, and now we’re each lending each other a hand to make things happen,” he said, before adding, “I’m happy I get to say there’s a community within regional music and that we all want to be there for each other and represent Mexico. We do this for the culture and for nothing else.”
The Foro Sol performance came a day after Peso Pluma was left out of the Best New Artist nominees at the 2024 Grammy Awards. The singer, however, is up for Best Música Mexicana Album for Génesis. (He is also absent from the nominations list at Thursday’s Latin Grammys, though his song with Eslabón Armado, “Ella Baila Sola,” is up for two awards.)
