Peso Pluma concert in Milwaukee, postponed after drug cartel threat, is rescheduled

On Thursday, the day disappointed Peso Pluma fans were supposed to see the fast-rising regional Mexican star in Milwaukee — a show postponed just 48 hours prior — there was some good news.

The Fiserv Forum show scheduled for Sept. 18 — one of four this week postponed for “unforeseen circumstances” — has been rescheduled.

Pluma will now be at the Milwaukee Bucks arena Nov. 4, following rescheduled dates in Chicago (now Oct. 29), Indianapolis (Oct. 31) and Pelham, Ala. (Nov. 2).

Previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date, with additional tickets available at the box office (1111 N. Phillips Ave.) and through Ticketmaster.

Pluma — who on Tuesday became the first regional Mexican star to perform on the MTV Video Music Awards — postponed the shows before the broadcast. No specific reason was given, but the same day the concert postponements were announced, the El Paso Times reported that Pluma had received a death threat from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel over a concert scheduled for Oct. 14 at Caliente Stadium in Tijuana.

According to the report, a banner signed by the cartel and posted in a Tijuana subdivision read: “This goes to Peso Pluma, refrain from presenting yourself on October 14, because it will be your last show due to your disrespect and loose tongue, you show up and we are going to (break you).”

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel is the main rival of the Sinaloa Cartel, which Pluma has referenced in songs like “GAVILÁN II,” a narcocorrido from his blockbuster album “Genesis.” Narcocorridos is a long-established subgenre of Mexican regional music whose stories relate to drug dealers.

Pluma, who has been one of the biggest music breakouts of 2023, follows other noteworthy concerts with major Mexican music stars rarely held in the biggest venues in the city, including a Santa Fe Klan appearance at Summerfest and Los Bukis' kickoff concert for Mexican Fiesta last month.
