When Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits the big screen on Dec. 18, it will be the first film in the franchise to tell a story not devised by creator George Lucas. It turns out, Star Wars’ Jedi Master had begun writing the seventh chapter to the saga several years ago. “The [ideas] that I sold to Disney, they came to the decision that they didn’t really want to do those,” Lucas, who executive produced the new animated musical Strange Magic, recently told Cinema Blend.
The designer or co-designer of iconic characters (and vehicles) such as Yoda, Boba Fett, and the Millennium Falcon, Johnston has put much of his 'Star Wars' collection up for auction.
When Disney bought Lucasfilm, they didn’t just acquire Star Wars — they also got access to the brain of its creator, George Lucas. Lucasfilm announced on Tuesday that it will release a new animated film called Strange Magic on Jan. 23. The film, directed by Pixar vet Gary Rydstrom, features a story written by Lucas himself — with an assist from one William Shakespeare.
Six years after his last big-screen appearance, Indiana Jones may ride again. Variety has printed what appears to be confirmation that Indiana Jones 5 is going into production. Insiders have been anticipating the announcement of a fifth Indiana Jones movie since December, when Disney acquired the rights to the franchise (following its acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012).
