Court Side Controversy

Lizzo, who was recently announced as Time's Entertainer of the Year, found herself in the middle of an online controversy when she was criticized for wearing a revealing dress (read: her entire thong was visible) to a Lakers game.

The hitmaker addressed the controversy in an Instagram live video where she continued her message of body confidence.

"Who I am and the essence of me and the things I choose to do as a grown a— woman can inspire you to do the same. You don't have to be like me, you need to be like you and never ever let somebody stop you, or shame you from being yourself. This is who I've always been."

Perez's Take

Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton weighed in on the controversy, and while the provocateur is known for his inflammatory takes, he has a surprisingly measured response to Lizzo's outfit.

"Personally, I loved it. I don't care that kids go to basketball games. That's a great topic of conversation then. Explain to your kids, you know, 'I don't want you dressing like that." or 'If you choose to dress like that when you're an adult, that's your choice.' However you want to address it with your kids.

Talk To Your Kids

Hilton, who is a father of two, encouraged the people who took issue with the outfit to talk to their kids about it. He also made the point that people are talking about Lizzo, which is exactly what someone with a new music video wants.

"If I was there with my son or daughter and if they brought it up, I would say, 'That person is a singer. They often times wear things to get people talking.' And that's exactly what we're doing now. It's very effective. Hello, Lizzo knows exactly what she's doing. She's got a new music video out as well. She's trying to get her latest single, 'Good as Hell,' to go number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and she may be doing it."

What About The Laker Girls?

Hilton also pointed out the hypocrisy of the criticism, explaining that the Laker Girls are right there, scantily clad and supporting their team.

"And also, hello, kids see way more at the beach or the pool. I'm not that bothered by it. I mean, hello, the Lakers cheerleaders aren't wearing that much."

Lizzo has made it very clear that she's not going to let the words of her critics bring her down, but it's still nice to see someone with a significant audience coming out with a message of support.
