‘Percy Jackson’ Star Walker Scobell Says He’d ‘Definitely Consider’ Playing Link in ‘Zelda’ Movie

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” star Walker Scobell has become a top contender among fans to play Link in Nintendo’s live-action “Legend of Zelda” movie. But how does the 14-year-old actor feel about the idea of portraying the hero of Hyrule?

“Actually, I don’t know. I don’t know if I’d be interested in playing Link,” Scobell told Variety at the “Percy Jackson” premiere in New York City Wednesday night. “If they came to me, I’d definitely consider it, 100%.”

Asked if he’s familiar with any of the Legend of Zelda games, Scobell said, “I have played ‘Breath of the Wild.’ I haven’t played the new one, ‘Tears of the Kingdom,’ but my dad loves Legend of Zelda. He played the games when he was younger.”

Scobell wields a sword as the titular hero in the Disney+ series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” Based on Rick Riordan’s popular young adult book series of the same name, the show follows 12-year-old demigod Percy, who must embark on a quest across America to return Zeus’ (Lance Reddick) master bolt.

Scobell recalled the first time he stepped foot in Camp Half-Blood, saying it was “weird seeing so many people” in the camp’s iconic orange T-shirts.

“Everyone was so happy all the time, which I think was my favorite part about Camp Half-Blood — is how excited everyone was to be there,” he continued.

Additional “Percy Jackson” stars and creative team members in attendance included Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Suzanne Cryer, Virginia Kull, Dior Goodjohn, Charlie Bushnell, Timm Sharp, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Timothy Ohmundson and director James Bobbin. The premiere was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, where the stars walked the red carpet near the Temple of Dendur in the Egyptian wing.

“I would love if we get to that point, to be able to turn every [‘Percy Jackson’] book into one season of television, because that would give us enough time to do it right,” said Riordan, who was accompanied by his wife and fellow executive producer Becky Riordan.

The “Percy Jackson” author also told Variety that he would “love to see” all of his book series, such as “The Kane Chronicles” and “Heroes of Olympus,” eventually “come to light” on screen.

“They are very interconnected,” Riordan continued, “so it really is a question of making sure that we built a good foundation when we’re building that house, and that foundation is ‘Percy Jackson.'”

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” hits Disney+ on Dec. 20 with a two-episode premiere, and will concurrently stream its first episode on Hulu.
