‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Trailer Teases the Demigod’s Quest

The latest trailer for Percy Jackson and the Olympians takes viewers farther into the challenges its title character will face.

The new clip follows an earlier teaser that focused on Percy’s (Walker Scobell) realization that he’s a demigod — the child of a Greek god and a human — and expands on it, showing the characters in previously unseen settings and facing off against new threats as he and his friends Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) race to return Zeus’ master lightning bolt to Olympus..

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is based on author Rick Riordan’s best-selling quintet of novels; the eight-episode first season, which premieres Dec. 20, will follow the events of the first book in the series, The Lightning Thief. Scobell, Jeffries and Simhadri star with Glynn Turman, Megan Mullally, Toby Stephens, Virginia Kull, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jason Mantzoukas, Jay Duplass, Adam Copeland, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Olivea Morton, Suzanne Cryer, Timm Sharp and Timothy Omundson.

Riordan — who famously was not a fan of the two Percy Jackson movies, released in 2010 and 2013 — is much more involved in the series. He’s credited as co-creator alongside Jon Steinberg; the pair wrote the first two episodes. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are co-showrunners and executive produce with Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell and D.J. Goldberg, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Monica Owusu-Breen, Anders Engström and Jet Wilkinson.
