This year's biggest headlines are hard to get out of your head, much like a Taylor Swift song. But not every moment that gripped the country's attention in 2023 was a sweet one.

The year's biggest events ranged from the amusing — Gwyneth Paltrow in civil court — to the jaw-dropping — the anticipation of a verdict in Alex Murdaugh's double murder trial. And throughout it all, there were sprinkles of pure joy, like what Beyoncé exudes from a stage.

PEOPLE gathered each impactful moment for our readers in a special edition 2023 yearbook.

There's no denying it all begins with Swift. The "Anti-Hero" singer dominated music charts, magazine covers and basically the world this year as she took her Eras Tour on the road. Then, she started dating Super Bowl champion tight end Travis Kelce and introduced football to a whole new demographic.

PEOPLE's 2023 yearbook revisits all of Swift's iconic moments in photos, from when she celebrated a Kansas City Chiefs victory with Travis' mom Donna Kelce to the most memorable moments of The Eras tour, which has an estimated gross profit of $1.4 billion by the end of the U.S. leg.

But Swift wasn't the only musician who helped football make headlines for reasons that had nothing to do with the sport.

Rhianna used the Super Bowl stage to debut her pregnancy bump in an unforgettable moment you can see in PEOPLE's keepsake issue. The "Umbrella" singer welcomed her second son with A$AP Rocky in August. It was later revealed that his name is Riot.

As PEOPLE's 2023 yearbook documents, female-led content also dominated at the box office this year thanks, in part, to a movie about an iconic doll — Barbie.

Margot Robbie played the titular character — even though she told PEOPLE she was "more of a roll-around-in-the-mud kind of gal," than the type that played with dolls when she was younger.

But she impressed the world in 2023 with her captivating performance as the toy who was forced to face the patriarchy and mortality in the real world. She also never failed to dazzle in her countless looks that paid homage to some of Barbie's most iconic outfits on red carpets during the worldwide press tour. Greta Gerwig's tour-de-force was, of course, one of the last big movies to be released before the strike that effectively shut down Hollywood.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike in May with SAG-AFTRA members quickly following suit in July. PEOPLE's special edition takes readers back to the most memorable moments on the picket line.

While actors were fighting for their rights, Simone Biles was busy proving to the world why she's still the greatest gymnast of all time, even after a two-year break to address her "twisties."

On Oct. 6 in Antwerp, Belgium, Biles won a record sixth world all-around title at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, bringing her medal count to an unmached 37. What's more, she did it as a newlywed, having married her husband, Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens on April 22 in Mexico. PEOPLE's yearbook preserves picturesque moments from both occasions.
