People on social media honestly love Paris Hilton’s new single

Paris Hilton decided to give fans a Valentine’s Day treat this year by releasing her first single in ages, “I Need You,” a romantic jam that marks her foray back into music a full 12 years after dropping her debut album.

The song, which Hilton whetted appetites for by posting a series of retro-sexy teases on social media (including an American Beauty-style shot of herself posing naked in a bed of roses), is a breathy slow jam that is an ode to her lucky love.

“I wanna put the happy in your Birthday/ And I wanna be the merry in your Christmas/ I’m always giving thanks for you on every Thanksgiving,” Hilton warbles over the slowly building rhythms. The newly engaged heiress is probably addressing this to her fiancé, Chris Zylka — and we’re sure he’s appreciative. But what do plain old regular fans think of the tune?

It would be forgiven if, by and large, folks chose to be dismissive — or, at least, skeptical. After all, it has been awhile since Hilton has stepped into this arena. But as it turns out, social media is exploding over it, and in mostly a good way.

There’s no word from Hilton or her camp as to whether the song is a one-off or part of an upcoming project, or if Hilton is planning to return seriously to a music career. There also aren’t any hints about a video to accompany the tune yet, either — but given all the pretty imagery Hilton’s been posting lately, we’re pretty sure that, at least, will be on the way.
