Pensacola area Restaurant inspections: 1 restaurant closed, 3 cited for insects
The summer months are here, and the June restaurant inspections for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation are hot and ready.
Across Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, there were 58 restaurants that passed their inspections compared to the 16 that didn’t. One was temporarily shut down and three restaurants received administrative complaints.
Out of those that passed, 31 restaurants passed without a single violation.

One restaurant forced to close temporarily
La Cabana Mexican Kitchen, 8708 Pensacola Blvd.
Following a June 5 visit from the DBPR, La Cabana was temporarily closed with 10 violations and an administrative complaint. Some of the top offenses included six live roaches in the kitchen, 15 flying insects in the kitchen area and food being stored at unsafe temperatures. The restaurant complied with a callback inspection on June 6.
Two other restaurants receive administrative complaints.
Five Sisters Blues Café, 421 W. Belmont St.
Following a June 7 visit from the DBPR, Five Sisters received nine violations with a follow-up inspection required. The two high priority offenses included flying insects in the kitchen and the presence of mop wastewater on the kitchen floor. In a follow-up inspection the next day, the restaurant received an administrative complaint when the flying insects were still present in the restaurant. Another follow-up inspection is still required.
Refresqueria Mexicana El Ray Ray, 2704 W. Avery St.
Following a June 7 visit from the DBPR, Refresqueria Mexicana El Ray Ray received 13 violations, five of the offenses considered high priority. Some of these being three flying insects in the kitchen, food being stored at improper temperatures and chemicals being improperly stored. In a follow-up inspection the same day, the restaurant received an administrative complaint for operating without a certified food manager certification.

Three restaurants hit 10+ violations
Nikko Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar, 4510 Highway 90, Pace
Following a June 10 visit from the DBPR, Nikko received eight violations. The three high priority offenses were regarding food being stored improperly and for operating without an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license. A follow-up inspection was required. In the follow-up on June 13, Niko received 23 violations, with 8 deemed a high priority. Some of the top offenses included improper handwashing practices from employees, flying insects in the kitchen and food being stored at improper temperatures. The restaurant complied with a follow-up inspection on June 14.
Six Kids Store Super Deli Inc., 1023 Grenbrier Blvd.
Following a June 10 visit from the DBPR, Six Kids received 13 violations with five of them deemed a high priority. Some of these high priority offenses including flying insects in the kitchen, lack of documentation for fish and food being stored and improper temperatures. A follow-up inspection is still required.
Sonic Drive-In 3210, 6173 Highway 90, Milton
Following a June 19 visit from the DBPR, Sonic received 10 violations, four of them being a high priority. These offences included small, flying insects in the kitchen, food being stored improperly and food being stored at improper temperatures. Sonic complied with a follow-up inspection the following day.
