Penn & Teller Have Fun With a Metal Detector

Magicians come on Penn & Teller: Fool Us, but on this week’s show, the Las Vegas duo did some magic that could fool the TSA.

They brought up a fully functional metal detector for their act. Through a process called pulse induction, metal detectors send out thousands of magnetic impulses every second. When a pulse bounces off a piece of metal, it triggers the alarm.

Some might think it would be a good trick to sneak metal through the detector without setting off the alarm, but Teller did the opposite. He set the alarm off and then magically pulled a metal bowl with fire from inside his jacket, and a full-size, fully functioning extinguisher out of nowhere to put out the fire.

For their finale, they did a twist on a classic routine, putting a large blanket in front of the metal detector and then dropping it to show a Las Vegas showgirl holding on to a bazooka, without setting off the alarm.

Penn & Teller: Fool Us airs Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. on the CW.
