Penn State runs awesome hook and lateral play to Saquon Barkley
Penn State has had a tough time getting the ball to Saquon Barkley in space in recent weeks, but a creative play call from Joe Moorhead solved that problem Saturday against Rutgers.
Leading 14-6, PSU faced a third-and-nine play from the Rutgers 15. Nittany Lions quarterback Trace McSorley threw what looked like a quick screen to DaeSean Hamilton. But instead of cutting up field, Hamilton pitched the ball to Barkley. He took it all the way down to the 1 with an awesome hurdle.
You can really see the play design from this angle. It looks like a standard wide receiver screen at first until Barkley, after a chip block, ran upfield toward Hamilton. He received the pitch in stride and got the Nittany Lions a first down.
Two plays later, Barkley finished off the drive with a one-yard touchdown run, increasing Penn State’s lead to 21-6.
PSU went on to win 35-6.
