Penn State QB Tommy Stevens nails Phil Collins drum solo before taking snap

I’d argue that one of the most satisfying things you can accomplish in life is nailing the brief drum solo in Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight.”

Penn State quarterback Tommy Stevens did it at practice Wednesday evening, but took it a step further. He did so while surveying the defense at the line of scrimmage.

That is elite multi-tasking by the redshirt sophomore. I’d imagine the mental checklist was something like this:

1. Make sure everybody is lined up correctly
2. Identify coverage
3. Hit air drum solo
4. Point out possible blitzer
5. Read safeties
6. Snap ball

If anybody at Penn State is reading this, please do not hesitate to send over the All-22 footage of this glorious moment in time.

And Stevens wasn’t the only Nittany Lion basking in the glory that is Phil Collins. Running back Mark Allen (No. 8), offensive lineman Ryan Bates (No. 52), tight ends Jonathan Holland (No. 18) and Nick Bowers (No. 83) all got in on the action, too.

As somebody who plays the drums, I give Holland high marks for his execution with Allen a close second. A little advice for Bates: do not hit your drum kit with a helmet. It will muddle the sound!
