Mark Strong appears to be starring in DC’s The Penguin series alongside Colin Farrell.

On Instagram, trainer Giacomo Farci posted a series of photos of Strong in boxing gloves. “Working to some new exciting projects with Mr Strong,” Farci’s caption reads. Always focused!”

In the comments, Farci was asked if it was true that he worked on DC Studios’ upcoming The Penguin series. “Yes, I’ve trained Mark for it,” Farci answered.

When asked what character Strong would be playing in The Penguin, Farci said, “I cannot answer to this question but I’m sure you will figure it out.”

Strong notably played Dr. Thaddeus Sivana in 2019’s Shazam! and had a minor cameo in the 2023 sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Both Shazam! movies, however, are set in the now-defunct DCEU and there’s been no indication that Strong will reprise his role in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s forthcoming DCU.

The Penguin, meanwhile, is set in the same universe as 2022’s The Batman, which exists in a separate continuity from the DCU. There have been rumors that Strong could be playing Carmine Falcone (who was played by John Turturro in The Batman) in The Penguin, though this has not been confirmed at this time.

What else do we know about The Penguin?

The limited drama, which is set after the events of The Batman, is being written by showrunner Lauren LeFranc, with Craig Zobel directing the first three episodes. It also stars Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, Michael Zegan as Alberto Falcone, and Michael Kelly as Johnny Vitti.

The Penguin does not have an official release date at this time; however, it’s expected to premiere on Max in late 2024.
