Penélope Cruz Calls Her Upcoming Milestone Birthday a ‘Huge, Beautiful Thing’ & We Love Her Attitude

It might still be a few months away, but Penélope Cruz is already looking forward to her upcoming milestone birthday. The Oscar winner and red carpet stunner will turn 50 years old this April and she’s ready to celebrate. In a recent profile, Cruz revealed why she’s so excited to commemorate her special day, and we’re all about this perspective.

While chatting with Elle, Cruz reflected on the pressure of agelessness and the cultural conversation around aging. At this point in her career, Cruz doesn’t “worry about” invasive questions regarding her age. “Because people have been asking me about age since I was twenty-something,” Cruz told the outlet. “I was more bothered then than now.” Years later, Cruz is ready to embrace her next chapter.

“Now it makes more sense, to discuss turning 50. It’s a huge, beautiful thing, and I really want to celebrate that with all my friends,” she said. “It means I’m here and I’m healthy, and it’s a reason to have a party.” That sounds like a party we’d love an invite to.

This isn’t the first time Cruz commented on her upcoming birthday. Earlier this month, the actress said she’s “really looking at it as the beginning of the second part of my life.” Reading Cruz’s thoughts on celebrating her 50th birthday might not seem like such a big deal, but when a prominent figure with such a large platform shares this type of perspective, it moves the needle that much further.

We might think we’ve come a long way when it comes to perceptions of maturing, getting older, and being a certain age — especially for women. But the fact is we still have a long way to go. We really love Cruz’s thoughtfulness and approach to her upcoming birthday. We only wish we could celebrate with her.
