Peloton's Leanne Hainsby Admits She's Not Yet Ready to Start Wedding Planning After Cancer Treatment

Hainsby and fellow Peloton instructor Ben Alldis got engaged in Aug. 2021, a year before Hainsby's cancer diagnosis

Leanne Hainsby isn't fully in planning mode for her wedding to Ben Alldis — for a good reason.

In an interview with Women’s Health, the Peloton instructor disclosed that while she is cancer-free, she wants to be able to “trust her body” before diving into organizing the couple's big day.

"One thing that comes before anything else — before Ben and I start planning a wedding, before anything [else] happens — I want to believe to my core that I can trust my body again," she told the outlet. "That's my main goal — to just say it and believe it."

Hainsby announced she had breast cancer in January after being officially diagnosed in Aug. 2022.

The fitness star began chemotherapy treatment for 12 weeks last fall, and continued to teach three to four Peloton classes a week — without disclosing her diagnosis to her followers and riders.

"I didn’t just want to feel like a cancer patient all the time, which is what I felt like most of the time," she explained to Women's Health.

In early April, Hainsby was given the all-clear in her three-month checkup.

While she may be cancer-free, Hainsby told the outlet, "There is a part of the journey now that’s [dealing with] the mental toll of cancer diagnosis."

When COVID-19 struck in 2020, fans noticed that when Alldis and Hainsby filmed their respective cycling classes remotely, they shared the same background. A month later — in April 2020 — the pair went public with their relationship.

“We wanted to find our own feet in our relationship before we started allowing the public to be aware of it,” Alldis told PEOPLE in a July interview. By Aug. 2021, the pair was engaged.

The fitness power couple previously told PEOPLE that they want to be married by the end of 2024.

“At the moment we’re taking this year slow and seeing how it all goes, just making sure Leanne is feeling more like herself,” Alldis said of Hainsby, 35.

When the pair does tie the knot, the celebration will be very different than how their previously under-the-radar romance began. Alldis recalled that he and Hainsby — who both joined Peloton in 2018 — were friends prior to making things official.

“We didn’t know each other before Peloton. We were the two British people in New York [where the company is headquartered]," he said.

Alldis explained that, at the time, "We both took quite big jumps. I moved from finance to fitness. She stopped being a professional dancer and went into this . . . Peloton in the U.K. wasn’t really a brand, so we were just thrown in the deep end."

Because of that, they "became super close as friends and then it just started to slowly grow. But, at the same time, we wanted to be respectful of the brand, so we kept it quiet for a little while."
