The internet’s obsession with Pedro Pascal grew even more when he sweetly shared his support for his younger sister, Lux Pascal, the day she publicly came out as a transgender woman in February 2021.

Lux is an up-and-coming actress and model, who studied theater in her native Chile before graduating from the famed Juilliard School in New York City in May 2023. She’s best known for appearing alongside her brother in Narcos, as well as her roles in the Spanish language series, 2019’s La Jauría, and film, 2022’s La California.

From her budding acting career to the support she’s received from her brother during her transition and at milestone events, including her Juilliard graduation, here’s everything to know about Lux Pascal and her tight-knit relationship with the Mandalorian star.

Lux was born on June 4, 1992, in Orange County, California. Her mother, a child psychologist, and father, a fertility doctor, had fled their home in Chile during dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet in 1976, first seeking asylum in Denmark before relocating to San Antonio, Texas. Eventually, they moved to Orange County, where her older brother Pedro was raised, he revealed in an interview with Esquire. Soon after Lux’s arrival, she returned with her parents to their native Chile, where she was raised.

She is the youngest of three siblings: older sister Javiera, as well as older brothers Nicolás and Pedro. After she returned to Chile with her parents and Nicolás, Pedro would return for visits — and soon found that his baby sister, who is 17 years his junior, was the true head of the household.

“She ruled the household right away. When my older sister and I would visit, we were like intruders,” he told Esquire. “Our mother was her mother, but for us to think that we were entitled to this woman’s attention in any way was absurd.”

The actress publicly came out as a trans woman in February 2021, in a cover story for Spanish-language Ya magazine. In the feature, she opened up about her transition for the first time, revealing that she had begun receiving hormone treatment the previous July.

In translation from her native Spanish, Lux shared that her family had been incredibly supportive of her transition, explaining that it was “something that's very natural for everyone in my family." She added, "It's almost something that they expected to happen."

Lux added that it doesn’t cause her pain to reflect on her past, and she has no trouble looking at photos of herself before her transition. "It doesn't make me anxious to see old photos of myself,” she explained, “The same thing happens to me with theater: I see someone who was doing what they liked."

The Last of Us star proudly shared a photo of Lux’s Ya cover story on his Instagram, sharing the news of her transition with his followers. In the caption, he expressed his love for his sister, writing, "Mi hermana, mi corazón, nuestra Lux," which translates to, "my sister, my heart, our Lux."

In the interview, Lux expressed gratitude for her brother and his support, noting that he "has been an important part of this. He's also an artist and has served as a guide for me. He was one of the first people to gift me the tools that started shaping my identity."

She came out to him as trans over FaceTime, she revealed — and he had the sweetest reaction. He "asked me how I felt, because I remember he was a little worried." When she told him she was happy, he was quick to congratulate her.

"Perfect, this is incredible," Lux recalled Pascal gushing to her.

When asked about how she was handling the public reaction to her transition, he told Esquire that it wasn’t his place to “speak on her behalf,” but that “she is and has always been one of the most powerful people and personalities I’ve ever known.” He noted that he’s always looking out for her, adding, “My protective side is lethal, but I need her more than she needs me.”

Beyond his support for Lux, the actor has proudly displayed his allyship and support for the LGBTQIA community in real life and on social media, sharing photos of a rainbow flag on Instagram in the wake of attacks on trans rights in March 2023 as well as during previous Pride Months.

She previously identified as non-binary

In her cover story, Lux shared that she didn’t feel confident enough in her sense of self to transition earlier. "I think if I would have been sufficiently sure of myself I would have transitioned in my adolescence. In school I trusted my classmates,” she explained, adding that she first came out as gay man and later as nonbinary to her family, before eventually feeling ready to proudly declare that she’s a woman.

“Coming out of the closet as a gay man didn't cost me anything, but deep down it wasn't who I was. It was only a step on the staircase, but it wasn't me,” she said. "It was an easy thing to say," she said about her coming out, "but the truth was, 'Oof, if you really knew what I feel..."

While she is embracing her transition, she remains a proud advocate for the non-binary community. "Moving through the world as a woman is much more simple for me, but I still advocate for non-binary identities to have a space in society," she explained, noting that activism and representation are incredibly important to her.

"We need trans activists who are good, smart, informed and who can be strong voices against transphobia, homophobia and racism," she said.

Acting piqued Lux’s interest at an early age, and she went on to study theater, earning a BFA in acting at the conservatory of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. In 2019, she moved to New York City to pursue a degree from The Julliard School’s famed MFA Acting program, from which she graduated in 2023.

She’s dabbled in all corners of the arts, from theater and dance to television and film. Beyond appearing alongside her brother in Narcos, she’s landed notable roles in Chilean drama Los 80, and starred in Julliard performances including Hamlet and most recently, Ayad Akhtar’s The Who & The What.

She has a partner

While Lux hasn’t publicly revealed many details about her relationship status, she has shared occasional photos of her partner, José Antonio Raffo de la Jara, on social media. José, whom she affectionately refers to as Raffito, is a musician and actor, according to his Instagram bio. He sings and plays guitar in a band called Témpera.

Lux has shared glimpses of their romance on her Instagram, posting a tribute to him on his birthday in January 2023 that featured two photos of the pair smiling while entwined on a beach. “Raffito, you make my heart sing,” she wrote. She previously shared a carousel post dedicated to him, posting sweet photos of him throughout their travels. The snaps include him sitting beside her on a plane, on the subway in New York City and by the beach.

From attending her Juilliard graduation to clearing his schedule for her theater performances, the actor shows up for his little sister as often as possible. He proudly posed alongside her when the actress graduated from Julliard in May 2023.

When she starred in a Juilliard performance of The Who & the What earlier that year, he and his family busily arranged to all be in attendance, flying into N.Y.C. from all around the world. It had been a year since he’d last seen her — the two had turned heads in April 2022 when he brought her as his date to the premiere of his film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent — and making time for her was of the utmost importance, he told Esquire. “I get anxious about when I’ll be back again,” he says. “So I’m just trying to see her as much as possible.”

He shared a similar sentiment to mark her birthday in 2021, lamenting in an Instagram caption, “I would do anything to spend this day with my sister.” The carousel post features several photos of Lux modeling, under which he wrote, “since I can’t I will just show her off.”

Lux was on Pedro's arm as he hit the red carpet before the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, where he was nominated for best supporting actor in a drama series for The Last of Us. She wore a black gown that coordinated with her brother's black tux, along with the matching sling his arm was in after he "fell” and injured himself.
