Pedestrian struck twice and killed in west Volusia County accident

DAYTONA BEACH — A 41-year-old Miami man died late Friday night in a vehicular accident in a rural area between north DeLand and DeLeon Springs.

The unidentified man was sitting in the northbound travel lane of County Road 15A just east of U.S. Highway 17 after being struck by a vehicle, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was sitting in the roadway after the initial collision when a second vehicle driving north on U.S. Highway 17, a pickup truck driven by a 62-year-old DeLand man, hit the Miami man.

The second accident occurred about 11:45 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The Miami man was pronounced dead at the scene near Oak Lane, troopers said. The DeLand man was not injured.

Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal collision. No additional details were provided.
