A funeral service for Oconee County sheriff’s Lt. Scott Underwood will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Prince Avenue Baptist Church off U.S. Highway 78 in Bogart.

The public is invited to the service; however, the visitation and graveside burial is private.

Underwood, an officer in the sheriff’s office for 21 years, was killed in an accident May 19, when his riding lawn mower overturned in the backyard of his home in Farmington community.

A highway procession from the church after the service is also available for the public to stand along the route for people to pay their respects, according to the sheriff’s office.

Oconee County Sheriff James Hale said Wednesday that the procession will leave the church after the service and travel Highway 78 to Georgia 316, then to the Oconee Connector. The procession then heads south on Mars Hill Road to Butler’s Crossing in Watkinsville, where it will move to U.S. Highway 441 and head south to Farmington.

In lieu of flowers, people can donate to the Scott M. Underwood Benefit Account at Oconee State Bank. All funds will go to the Underwood family.
