Paulina Porizkova’s Latest Reflection Breaks the Major Change She Felt After Her Late Husband’s Death

If you’re a follower of Paulina Porizkova on social media, then you know that the supermodel often shares major reflections about her life with her fans. Whether it’s why her romance with her boyfriend, TV writer Jeff Greenstein, is so special, or why she’s embraced her body even more as she ages, Porizkova is the true definition of an open book.
Most recently, she gave fans another major insight into her life, this time surrounding the death of her late husband, Ric Ocasek. As a reminder, the two, who shared kids Oliver, 25, and Jonathan, 30, were married from 1989 to 2019.

Porizkova’s Instagram post consisted of a video of her and her new beau telling a story. “This is a joke my dad used to tell me, it’s about a guy who goes to a tailor to buy a suit,” he begins. The story, in a nutshell, talks about how this one man adjusts his posture and his walk to make the suit fit instead of adjusting it to his correct measurements.
“Metaphorically speaking, this simple story, joke or fable (told to Jeff by his dad, Lenny) carries parallels to all sorts of situations,” Porizkova wrote in the caption. “The one I choose, although outwardly funny, is, to me, also truly poignant.”
“The man in the ill-fitting suit who adjusts himself to fit it, is the story of my life,” Porizkova reflected. “I molded myself to what was wanted and desired of me, no matter how uncomfortable or painful it was,” she continued. “And then I made it look – if not good- then at least intentional.”
“It wasn’t until after my husband’s death and the complete destruction of who I was, that I decided to no longer wear a suit,” she admitted. “I took on the world naked and vulnerable. And I could finally be accepted for who I was and not for how I filled out the suit.”
And while the metaphor is a comedic way for her to talk about this major shift in her life, it’s heartwarming to hear how she’s now prioritized herself rather than fitting into other people’s standards.
“Great metaphor and the wonderfully dorky couple make for a great comedic duo 😄,” one user wrote in the comments. “Metaphorically speaking, it’s pretty brilliant,” wrote another commenter. “I too am working on not putting on any suits. 😊😘”
Prior to Porizkova’s social media reflection, the model opened up to SheKnows about the dark time in her life following Ocasek’s passing. “I was completely and utterly unable to understand human language,” she said as our cover star. “I was so devastated and so crushed, I couldn’t make myself a sandwich or take a shower, never mind go to a business manager or an accountant and try to figure out what the hell I’m supposed to be doing with my finances.”
Luckily for her, she’s now turned the chapter.
