Paul Simon, Framed

Time for a jaunt backwards in time, readers – all the way back to 1972, when Paul Simon released his first solo album, which contained the cryptic “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard.”

Simon had been the important half of Simon & Garfunkel, the ‘60s folk/pop act that had eight Top 10 songs and won nine Grammys. After they broke up in 1970, he went solo, releasing a self-titled LP in 1972. It included this week’s video, “Me & Julio,” which was shot back in the Queens neighborhood where Simon and Garfunkel met and includes celebs like Big Daddy Kane, John Madden and the great Mickey Mantle.

What’s it about? Well, that’s always been the money question. Simon has dodged it, but has conceded that it “evidently” is about “something sexual.” Others have thought it to be about illicit drug use or even protesting the Vietnam War.

You be the judge, readers! What the hell is this thing about? And while you’re at it, enjoy our captions, which are always provided to you at no charge at all! See you next week!
