Paul Rodgers chats with Kyle Meredith about his solo album, Midnight Rose, getting approval from Aretha Franklin, and more.
Rodgers discusses the simplicity of his favorite records and the blues music that influenced many in his generation. “Some of those blues records were recorded in a cotton field… But it’s great,” he says. “It’s stood the test of time, you can be forgiving of the sound because the performance has got this spark to it.”
He also talks how the song “Take Love” originates from his time fronting Queen in the 2000s, as well as looking back on 1983’s Cut Loose, which arrived at the time of both his friend’s death, Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham, and his band Bad Company breaking up. Finally, he tells the story of getting a nod of approval from Aretha Franklin.
