'Crocodile Dundee' star Paul Hogan resurfaces in new movie trailer for 'The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee'

Crocodile Dundee is back! Well, Paul Hogan is, at least.

And as he puts it to a deflated young fan, “I'm not really Crocodile Dundee, you know, that's just character I played in a movie.”

The first trailer for meta-comedy The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee has landed, with “Hoges” playing a fictionalized version of himself.

The plot is thus: On the cusp of being knighted for his services to comedy, Hogan’s reputation receives a rather serious battering.

Lampooning his own rise and fall from fame, thanks to the Crocodile Dundee movies, the Aussie actor and comedian finds himself being courted by Hollywood for a comeback. Hilarity ensues, including one caper involving the LAPD, John Cleese and the absence of a driving license.

Joining Cleese in playing themselves are Chevy Chase, Olivia Newton-John and Seinfeld's Wayne Knight, with stand-up star Jim Jeffries and Luke Hemsworth also making appearances.

Hogan was a huge hit in Hollywood back in the ‘80s, thanks to the first Dundee movie in 1986, which earned him an Oscar nomination for its screenplay and nearly $330 million at the box office.

Crocodile Dundee II was also a smash two years later, but 2001 comeback Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles was a $39 million worldwide box office disaster.

A U.S. release date for the new film has yet to be announced.
