She is currently still scheduled for three more shows stateside to close out the year: a Dec. 27 concert in Chicago and two shows in Brooklyn, on Dec. 29 and 30.

Known by titles including "punk poet laureate" and "godmother of punk," Smith rose to prominence as a singer in the '70s, after releasing her acclaimed debut album, Horses. She went on to co-write her hit song "Because the Night" with Bruce Springsteen, which reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1978. Smith was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and has also penned a celebrated memoir, Just Kids, and multiple poetry collections.

The singer previously opened up about her health in a 2020 interview with The Guardian, in which she spoke about struggling throughout the coronavirus pandemic due to a lifelong bronchial condition.

"I was a sickly kid, sometimes they were worried that I wouldn't pull through," Smith said, adding that she has since become accustomed to a life of travel and touring. "I had so much responsibility and a true purpose. To be in limbo almost 10 months, for a person like me who doesn't like sitting in the same place, it's been very challenging. I feel like I'm part-wolf, roaming from room to room."
