‘Patriot’ Trailer: Is This the Unlikely Hero America Needs Now?

There’s no quicker way to establish that the man at the center of Patriot, the new Amazon Prime Video series from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty‘s Steven Conrad, is not your typical TV spy than by starting a trailer in the restroom as he’s trying to secure another man’s urine so he can pass the drug test required for a job at a Midwestern industrial piping firm that will serve as his “non-official cover.”

“The USA needs my pee?” the man asks John Tavner (Wonderland‘s Michael Dorman), who deals with PTSD from past assignments by smoking weed and writing folk songs. And then, he gives it.

Tasked with preventing Iran from going nuclear, John is the son of State Department Director of Intelligence Tom Tavner (Lost‘s Terry O’Quinn). Other key figures in his complicated life and this darkly comedic satire include his new boss at the piping firm, Mr. Claret (That ’70s Show‘s Kurtwood Smith); his older brother, Congressman Edward Tavner (Orange is the New Black‘s Michael Chernus); his wife, Alice (Call Me Fitz‘s Kathleen Munroe); and Agathe (Aliette Opheim), a young homicide detective from Luxembourg who’s on to him.

The series also co-stars Sons of Anarchy‘s Mark Boone Junior and Pitch Perfect‘s Hana Mae Lee.

Watch the pilot for Patriot now on Amazon Prime Video. The rest of Season 1 begins streaming Feb. 24.
