Patrick Maroon emerged as the hero Tuesday night, steering the St. Louis Blues into the conference finals with a goal in double overtime that secured a 2-1 victory in Game 7.

Blues forward Robert Thomas barrelled towards the Dallas Stars’ net and tried to pick the top corner on a shot that caromed off Ben Bishop into the crease. Bishop couldn’t recover in time as Maroon swooped in to poke the rebound into the net, ending the series.

It was cruel fate for Bishop, who made a career-high 52 saves in the losing effort.

Maroon scored his third goal of the playoffs and it was his second game-winning marker of the playoffs, notching the final goal in a 4-3 Game 4 victory.

Tuesday’s winner adds to Maroon’s storybook season. Although it’ll surely get beaten into the ground as a potential storyline, Maroon signed with his hometown Blues on a one-year, discounted deal in July, and is now helping his boyhood club inch closer to the first Stanley Cup victory in franchise history.
