Patrick Mahomes Sr. Posts $10,000 Bail After Arrest on DWI Charge

The father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was arrested in Tyler on Saturday, according to jail records

Patrick Mahomes Sr. was released on bail Sunday, one day after his arrest on a DWI charge in Tyler, Texas.

The father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was arrested on Saturday and booked in the Smith County Jail, according to jail records.

Mahomes Sr., 53, was released on a $10,000 bond.

Jail records show that it was the third time the former MLB pitcher has been arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Mahomes Sr. was previously charged with a DWI in 2018 and in 2019.

He pled guilty and served 40 days over weekends in the county jail, according to court records.

Mahomes Sr. did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

In 2016, the father of three was arrested and charged with public intoxication during a double overtime game between his son’s alma mater, Texas Tech, and TCU.

Fort Worth police arrested Mahomes Sr. while he was in the TCU student section in the stands of Amon G. Carter Stadium, USA Today reported at the time.

Jail records also show Mahomes Sr. was arrested on a DWI charge in two separate incidents in 2012 in Smith County.

Mahomes Sr.’s arrest comes a little over a week before his son plays in Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers.

The retired pitcher played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1992 to 2003.

Mahomes Sr. shares sons Patrick and Jackson Mahomes with ex-wife Randi Martin. He is also dad to Zoe Mahomes, his daughter from a relationship following his split with Martin.

The divorced pair are grandparents to Patrick's two children, whom he shares with wife Brittany Mahomes: daughter Sterling Skye Mahomes and son Patrick "Bronze" Lavon Mahomes III.
