South Carolina football legend Pat DiMarco is shifting into a new role within Gamecocks athletics, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to The State.

Chris Clark of Gamecock Central was first to report the news.

DiMarco is moving into a role more focused on name, image and likeness after previously joining head coach Shane Beamer’s staff in March 2021 as a football analyst and assistant director of football relations.

The new role doesn’t have a title yet, but it’s anticipated DiMarco will help facilitate deals for current student-athletes, work with local businesses to incorporate them into Gamecock Exchange — USC’s in-house NIL marketplace — and present to donors, current players and prospects about NIL opportunities at the school.

South Carolina’s state law that previously prevented schools from facilitating deals for student-athletes was suspended on July 1, opening the door for more roles like DiMarco’s within the program.

The Florida native was a two-time captain for the Gamecocks at fullback and tight end under Steve Spurrier before going on to an almost 10-year NFL career with the San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills.

DiMarco finished his professional career with 52 receptions for 404 yards and four touchdowns, while adding another 14 yards on seven carries. He was named a second team All-Pro and a Pro Bowler in 2015 with the Falcons.
